Level: Moderately Easy
Get ready for the launch and start the countdown! It's time to take a few simple items and make a paper rocket. After following these steps, a backyard rocket will be heading to the skies.
Supplies:
· A 35-mm film canister-check that junk drawer!
· Paper
· Tape
· Alka-Seltzer
Instructions:
1. Find a 35-mm film canister with a snap on lid. Although most people use digital cameras these days, an old film canister is hanging around most houses or pick up a new one during the next trip to the store.
2. Cut a piece of paper so that it can wrap around the film canister, leaving the open end of the canister sticking out of the bottom. Tape the paper to the film canister.
3. Cut another strip of paper and make a cone for the nose of the rocket. Place it on top of the canister.
4. Turn the rocket upside down so that the open end of the canister is facing up.
5. Fill it half way with cold water.
6. Drop in half of an Alka-Seltzer tablet.
7. Snap the lid on and place the rocket right side up.
8. Stand back and begin the countdown. 5-4-3-2-1 Blastoff! The rocket should shoot about 6 feet in the air.
